EUAM Iraq’s Senior Strategic Advisers on Command & Control and Crisis Management, on Planning and Strategy, on Security Sector Reform (SSR) and on the Prevention of Violent Extremism, together with the Human Rights and Women Empowerment Advisers, delivered a training of trainers (ToT) course on strategic leadership in police service.

 The tailormade ToT model was developed at the request of the Training and Qualifications Directorate of the Iraqi Ministry of Interior (MoI) and is intended to strengthen the MoI in terms of training competences in the area of strategic leadership.

Participants from across Iraq attended the comprehensive week-long course which delved into teaching skills, group exercises and thematic areas such as police strategies, change management, human rights, command and control, SSR, strategic leadership and communication, which are key for effective and inclusive policing.

One of the attendees commented: “I have greatly benefited from the valuable information related not only to the command and control, but also the other themes that are required to build a strong leader”.

Effective leadership nurtures strategic vision and contributes to accountability and confidence between citizens and a country's security institutions.
