EUAM Iraq together with Italy co-organised a high-level exchange on civilian aspects in Security Sector Reform (SSR) between members of the Iraqi Executive Committee on SSR and representatives of the Italian civilian and military security sector in Rome.  

Particular attention was paid to the effective fight against organised crime, corruption, drugs and cybercrime. The delegation also visited the Italian Civil Protection Operations Centre to discuss effective preparedness and coordination in response to national emergencies.  

The Iraqi delegation was composed of high-level representatives of the Executive Committee on SSR, including its Chairman - Dr Khalid Al-Yaqobi.  

"Our Iraqi partners have been very engaged throughout the visit and highlighted the fight against drugs and corruption as well as the valuable insight into civil protection operations as topics of high priority and interest to the reform process in Iraq. We are grateful for the strong cooperation with Italy and our Iraqi counterparts’ trust. As a Mission, we look forward to progressing the EU Member States’ support to SSR in Iraq further," concluded the Deputy Head of EUAM Iraq.
