EUAM meets with the Commission of Integrity

EUAM Iraq Deputy Head of Mission, Ms. Anne Meskanen, Senior Strategic Advisor on Institutional Reform Mr. John Mulcahy and Head of Press Office, Ms. Anna Palmén met with the Federal Commission of Integrity.

The Commission was established in 2004 and is an independent entity accountable to the Iraqi Parliament, President and Prime Minister. It is tasked with investigating corruption, recovering stolen government assets, extradition, proposing anti-corruption legislation, and overseeing mandatory financial disclosures for Iraqi government officials. The Commission comprises around 2600 personnel, which includes 1400 investigators, 1000 of whom are provincial based in 15 Iraqi provinces.

The Commission was represented at the meeting by Director General, Acting Deputy Commissioner Dr. Mutaz Faisal Al-Abbasi and Head of Public Relations Department, Mr. Bashar Nahid.

The objective of the meeting was to initiate policy dialogue with the Commission given its significance and influence as Iraq’s foremost anti-corruption entity. Mr. Al-Abbasi gave an overview of the Commission’s strategic role, functions, responsibilities, cooperation with the Ministry of Interior as well as elaborated on institutional and structural challenges.
