EUAM Iraq and UNDP facilitated a two-day workshop in Erbil
05-03-2021

EUAM Iraq along with the Mission’s strategic partner UNDP Iraq supported a two-day workshop in Erbil, the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, for representatives of the National Security Strategy (NSS) Permanent Committee and the National Security Advisory and Secretariat.

The workshop was part of the Mission’s ongoing efforts to support the Iraqi owned and led development of a new NSS. The NSS aspires to be integrated, inclusive, dynamic, comprehensive, and deliverable within national means and capabilities.

The event provided a platform for EUAM Iraq to engage with the NSS Permanent Committee and to contextualise and synthesise comparative approaches to the formulation of NSS. The Mission also addressed key structural elements of NSS including strategic context, importance of the national interest and values, strategic objectives and commitments, as well as governance structures, accountability and oversight.

The National Security Adviser personally expressed his appreciation for the Mission’s contribution and continued support.
