Following a scoping mission conducted earlier this year, counterparts at the Iraqi Directorate of Anti-Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances (DANPS) identified a training need for sniffer dogs. Considering this request, EUAM Iraq facilitated a capacity-building programme for their K9 Unit, delivered by the Carabinieri from Italy in the framework of EU-ACT.
Officials from the DANPS participated in the week-long training. Its aim is to develop and enhance the skills and knowledge necessary for the effective deployment of sniffer dogs in law enforcement operations, which will consequently help the judiciary address drug-related crimes based on evidence.
EUAM Iraq supports the implementation of the Iraqi National Strategy for Combating Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances through advice and assistance to help Iraq combat drug-related challenges and organised crime.
