MEET OUR TEAM: "Working in Iraq gives me a lot of new, refreshing insights."

Briefly describe your career and tell us why you applied for a position with EUAM Iraq?

My career has revolved around initiating change, starting from community policing to teaching at a police academy, various advisory roles, and leading development & education. I've also spent five years in combatting Organised Crime. Alongside my career, I pursued a bachelor’s in spiritual counselling and a master’s in Italian language and culture. Drawn to Iraq's potential and its journey of rebuilding, I saw an opportunity to contribute through my experience in change management. I'm also keen on learning from different cultures, which this role perfectly offers.

Tell us about your daily work?

As a Senior Strategic Adviser in Organised Crime and Anti-Drugs, I collaborate with EUAM teams in Baghdad and Erbil, focusing on various aspects of Organised Crime. We work with Iraqi counterparts and international bodies to tackle narcotics issues, keeping in mind European and Iraqi interests. Additionally, I am involved in workshops on Gender and Human Resource Management.

How do you find working with colleagues from different backgrounds?

It's incredibly enriching and refreshing. Working with colleagues of diverse backgrounds helps in understanding different value systems and approaches to problem-solving. This diversity challenges my own perceptions and contributes to my professional growth.

What has been the most rewarding or memorable experience for you in the Mission so far?

The most rewarding experiences are the positive responses in workshops. A particularly memorable moment was a conversation with a female officer, which highlighted the contrasting personal and professional challenges faced by women in Iraq compared to my experiences.

What do you enjoy the most with Iraqi people and culture?

I am deeply impressed by the hospitality and kindness of the Iraqi people. The rich history of Iraq, especially its biblical significance, fascinates me and underscores our shared cultural heritage.

If you could live anywhere, where would you choose to be?

I'd choose a place surrounded by nature, with a community of open-minded and cooperative people, offering a healthy lifestyle. Still searching for such a place! any suggestions?

What is something your colleagues don’t know about you?

I enjoy living spontaneously, preferring to make decisions in the moment rather than planning ahead. This approach helps me to embrace each day as it comes.

What is your usual order at a restaurant?

All kinds of spicy vegetarian dishes. I’m very selective in my non-vegetarian food: I mostly don’t find it tasty.

How do you relax?

My relaxation methods vary. I love being in nature, but depending on my mood, I might also indulge in creative activities, reading, watching movies, or engaging in sports, which I choose based on the weather.
