In cooperation with Mohamed Mazen Dakouri, the representative of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), EUAM Iraq conducted a two-day workshop on Major Sport Events and stadium security at the Ministry of Interior (MoI) Joint Coordination Centre.
The workshop, which was attended by senior police officers and MoI representatives from most Iraqi regions, provided advice on crowd control and the organisation of access control and safety in stadiums. The AFC representative gave a presentation on the AFC's guidelines and regulations for planning and organising international matches in Iraq.
Crowd control, both outside and inside stadiums, is a major challenge when organising big international matches. This workshop enabled participants to meet the international requirements of rules and regulations to be followed when organising international football matches.
EUAM Iraq will continue to work with key Iraqi authorities and international organisations such as the AFC to develop strategies to increase security both inside and outside Iraqi football stadiums.
